Tennis New Zealand is the national body for tennis in New Zealand and is responsible for the administration and management of tennis in New Zealand. ABOUT THIS ROLE
Working within the Sport Development team and overseeing the Regional Coach Development Leads (to be appointed), The Coach Development Manager is responsible for the implementation, and ongoing delivery of the national strategic initiatives in the areas of coach development and coach engagement.
Responsible for ensuring quality coaches are serving the needs of participants and athletes at all levels, the position will lead management and support of the delivery of all short courses, qualifications, workshops, conferences, and extension opportunities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Strategic Direction and Partnerships

Working with the Regional Coach Development Leads (to be appointed) and wider Coach Developer network, implement the national coach development framework.

Develop and grow the Capability and Capacity of the coach developer network across the country

Deliver an annual coach survey to understand trends and needs of coaching and coaches within Tennis in NZ

Build and foster key relationships with Tennis Australia, Sport NZ, ITF Coach Development Team.

Work closely with the National Sport Development Manager and wider sport development team on strategic priorities.

Manage the annual Coach Development Budget to ensure accurate and up-to-date financials are kept.
Coach Development -
Plan and publish annual course and delivery calendar in alignment with the Regional Coach Development leads and Coach Developer network.

Plan, resource and deliver/facilitate the national Club Professional course as and when required.

Plan, organize, and if required deliver/facilitate coach education courses (Coach Assistant and Development Coaching Courses) in all areas not covered by Regional Coach Development leads/Coach Developer Network.

Recruit and develop a national network of coach developers/coach development leads (including annual training and PD sessions)

Manage the Recognition of Current Competence scheme (in partnership with Tennis Australia)
Administration and Follow-Up: -
Ensure all administrative tasks related to coach education courses, including registrations, communications, and record-keeping via national database and online register are current and completed.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all coaches who have completed courses via national database and online register.

Create regular coaching updates and create content for Coach newsletters.

Create resources, templates and education opportunities for clubs and coaches to improve the coach/club relationship.

Collate and present relevant or requested reports on coaching statistics, trends and initiatives.
Facilitate Coach Connections: -
Organize and lead regular meetings, workshops, and networking events for coaches

Act as a point of contact for coaches, coach developers and Regional Coach Development leads seeking advice or support.

Plan, resource and deliver the National Coaching Conference.

Assist coaching businesses and organizations in recruiting new coaching assistants.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Experience in developing coaches and delivering education for coaches.• Experience in team leadership
• Confidence in public speaking and presentation delivery
• Sound IT knowledge and experience including multimedia and Microsoft office programmes.
• Experience in working with diverse stakeholders and coaches of all levels.
• Extensive sports coaching experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

QUALIFICATIONS

About the role
We’re looking for an organised and motivated Tournament & Events Manager to lead the planning and delivery of Tennis New Zealand’s national tournaments, competitions, and events — including Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, ITF World Tennis Tour events, and key national championships. You’ll work closely with regions, associations, affiliates, and the International Tennis Federation to ensure high-quality events that inspire players and engage communities.
Tennis New Zealand is the national body for tennis in New Zealand and is responsible for the administration, management and growth of tennis in New Zealand. Delivery of dynamic, engaging events is a cornerstone of this work.
Main Responsibilities:
National Events
- Coordinate each tournament’s key elements to ensure a successful and competitive event, including:
- Produce necessary communications, including Fact Sheets, Acceptance Lists, website updates and results details.
- Work with host venues on event delivery contracts, logistics and operations
- Work with tournament delivery staff to ensure the best delivery models
- Liaise with officials, coaches, players and tournament staff
- Develop and manage annual event budgets
- Work to maximise the event experience for players and other stakeholders and broaden the scope of each event
Davis and Billie Jean King Cup
- Coordinate the delivery of home ties including venue set-up, logistics and tie operations
- Work with the key staff on venue selection and event delivery strategy, to maximise the event value to Tennis NZ and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with appropriate persons at the ITF on event delivery
- Develop and manage event budgets
ITF World Tennis Tour
- Coordinate the delivery of home World Tennis Tour Professional events - including venue set-up, logistics and operations.
- Co-ordinate event venue selection and calendar for ITF World Tennis Tour junior events.
- Work with the High Performance Director, Commercial Manager and other key staff on date and venue selection and event delivery strategy, to maximise the event value to Tennis NZ and external stakeholders.
- Develop and manage event budgets
- Liaise with appropriate persons at the ITF and/or appointed Officials on event delivery
Enable
- Work with Tennis Regions, Associations and venues to ensure the best quality events are delivered.
- Grow the networks of local tournament deliverers and officials (volunteer and professional).
Administer
- Maintain and implement Tennis NZ’s Tournament Sanction process , outlining best practice for each event.
- Work with Tennis Regions, Associations and clubs to coordinate a National calendar for all tournaments
Partnerships
- Provide support and direction to Associations and Regions on all tournament matters, including related training and support
- Service and strengthen key relationships within the wider Tennis NZ team
- Build strong partnerships with, and provide assistance to Tennis NZ Affiliates, Regions and Associations
Officials
- Support ongoing development of an Officials Development Pathway to support and grow the officials network from volunteer helpers to ITF qualified officials.
What we’re looking for
Required:
- Proven experience in event management (minimum 3 years in sports events or similar).
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Skilled communicator and relationship-builder.
- Experience managing budgets and delivering projects on time.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong written and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel within NZ and work flexible hours when required.
- Full NZ driver’s licence and legal right to work in NZ.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of tennis structures in NZ and internationally.

Background
Tennis New Zealand (TNZ) is the National Sport Organisation for tennis, leading development of programmes and opportunities to enable, encourage and enhance participation in tennis in New Zealand, and performance on the international stage. Tennis NZ is a dynamic organisation with a change agenda to ensure our sport is accessible and thriving. The TNZ Board is made up of eight Directors, four elected and four appointed. Board terms are for three-years. With the introduction of a new TNZ Constitution and Governance Regulation in 2025, a full board member role has been created.

You will demonstrate a connection to Te Tēnehi Māori or tennis in general, whether through playing, administration or other relevant experience. Building and maintaining a relationship with Te Tēnehi Māori will be a critical part of the role, including engagement with the Tēnehi Māori annual tournament.
The focus for this role is supporting the TNZ bi-cultural journey and our rangapū with Te Tēnehi Māori through effective governance input. You will be familiar with governance structures and feel comfortable contributing within that setting and facilitating change.
Across all three roles open by rotation, other technical skills seen as priority by the Board include IT and digital expertise, legal skills, accounting and finance skills and governance experience with large-scale change programmes. Other skills of interest include sponsorships/fundraising and high-performance sport. Across the three roles, two incumbents intend to re-stand and the female Chairperson is retiring.
