Wednesday, 30 September 2020

Marcus Daniell and Philipp Oswald have been beaten by US Open champions Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares in their first round doubles match at Roland Garros.

The 7th seeds have dominated the Kiwi Austrian combination to win 6-2 6-3 in  1 hour and 8 minutes. Daniell lost his opening service game and Oswald was broken later in the set while Pavic and Soares didn't face a break point against their serve in the first set.. Daniell and Oswald got off to the worst possible start to the second set with the Austrian broken to love in his opening service game and they never really recovered.

Daniell and Oswald did have their first break point chances of the match in the 6th game when they had Pavic 15-40 on serve but they couldn't convert and the US Open champions broke Oswald in the 9th game to close out the match.
The result means world number eight Michael Venus is the last Kiwi remaining as he and Aussie partner John Peers open their campaign tonight.

The 11th seeds fresh from winning the ATP 500 title in Hamburg at the week face a couple of singles specialists in Norway's Casper Ruud and Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic.
