Tennis NZ launches All Female Club Professional Coaching Course

Wednesday, 06 March 2024

In honour of International Women’s Day 2024 we are celebrating all of the amazing female coaches around NZ.

Tennis NZ is committed to our women’s and girls’ strategy and have introduced The Wahine Club Professional Coaching Course which is a female-only version of our highest level coach education course. This initiative focuses on increasing the quality and quantity of female coaches in NZ.

Our commitment to gender equity led to us winning bronze in the ITF Advantage All programme which awarded funding to deliver this special all-female coaching course and continue the pursuit of projects in gender equity in the coaching space.

"I am so proud of the work the team have committed to by supporting women's coach development.  That we have six women attending the upcoming programme demonstrates the value of taking a pro-active stance in creating equitable opportunities," says Tennis NZ Chief Executive Julie Paterson.

This funding will be going towards a travel subsidy for regional coaches to be able to attend the course, and for expert female presenters to help deliver both the core and extension modules. The ITF has recently posted a video featuring all of the winners of the 2023 Advantage All programme. Look closely and you’ll spot Tennis NZ Participation Manager, Shannon Hewetson.

The Club Professional Coaching Course is designed for coaches wanting to work in talent development and develop coaching businesses throughout New Zealand. There are currently only two female coaches qualified to this level in NZ. This year’s all-female Club Pro Coaching Course has six participants and will be delivered in Auckland over the course of 12-months beginning May 2024.
