Monday, 19 August 2024

Taranaki's Ajeet Rai has scored another M25 doubles title, along with partner Wang Aoran from China.

The pair beat South African duo Philip Henning & Kris Van Wyk 6-4 6-4 in the Yinchuan final over the weekend.

This is is Rai's third title at M25 level in 2024, previously winning in Lu'an China in May, and also Swan Hill, Australia.

Rai and Wang's toughest battle came in the first round, where they had to come back from a set down to win in a tight 10-8 match tiebreaker against Chinese pairing Pengyu Lu & Ye Cong Mo, eventually winning 3-6 6-2 10-8.

Rai took to instagram to give praise to his double's partner: "Great week with my brother [Wang Aoran]".

Rai's current doubles ranking sits at #243 in the world, closing in on his career high of #222.

Rai has once again been selected to represent New Zealand in the next Davis Cup tie, as NZ take on Luxembourg in Palmerston North in September.
