Lulu Sun added to her outstanding record in tiebreaks this year as she defeated Chloe Paquet 7-6(3) 6-3 in the first round of the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey, Mexico.

Taking that first set against the world No 96 took Sun to nine from 12 in tiebreak wins in 2024, demonstrating her mental strength to lift her game during the crucial moments in matches.

It was another match where Sun was able to handle the pressure of being expected to win, which is crucial for her rise up the rankings.

Against Paquet from France, Sun served seven aces and won an impressive 78 per cent of points on her first serve.

In the second round, the 23-year-old Sun will play against world No 86 from Argentina Maria Lourdes Carle, who had an impressive win over Veronika Kudermetova from Russia in the first round.
