Three New Zealand players will feature at the Australian Open doubles in 2024

Sunday, 14 January 2024

Seeded fourth in the women's draw are the US Open champions, Erin Routliffe and Canadian Gaby Dabrowski as they aim to continue their great form which bought them success in the later part of last year.

Routliffe is currently at a career-high ranking of nine, while Dabrowski is seventh. Together they face the team of Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) and Mayar Sherif (Egypt) in the first round, both of whom are ranked a long way behind the Kiwi-Canadian pair at 285 and 186 respectively.

If Routliffe and Dabrowski win that match there would be a clash with Russian opponents.

In the men's doubles Michael Venus and Scotland's Jamie Murray are eighth seeds and will play Ariel Behar (Uruguay) and Czech Adam Pavlasek in the first round.

They are in the same quarter of the draw as third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury as well as Santiago Gonzalez and Neal Skupski.

Last year Venus and Murray reached the second round in Melbourne.

Marcus Daniell is back at the Australian Open after missing out in 2023 as a result of a long time off the court with injury. He's teaming up with Brazil's Marcelo Demoliner with a first round contest against Australian wildcards, veteran John Millman and teenager Edward Winter.

There's a potential match up against the second seeds Rohan Bopana (India) and Aussie Matt Ebden in the second round.

Doubles matches are scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, but none of the New Zealanders are on court until Wednesday.
