Sun fights back to win 12 straight games at Jinan WTA 125

Monday, 13 October 2025

Lulu Sun came back from a shaky start to defeat Shi Han 3-6 6-0 6-0 in the first round of the WTA 125 tournament in Jinan, China.

Sun is the sixth seed for the tournament and was drawn against Shi, who was given a wildcard to the main draw and is ranked 318 in the world.

After that first set, it looked like a major upset was possible as Shi broke the Kiwi’s serve twice and was playing a level of tennis beyond her ranking.

But following this, Shi never won another game, as Sun rattled through the sets to complete the match in just over an hour and a half.

Sun dominated with her first serve, winning 81.6% of the points on it, but she didn’t make the same impression with her second serve, with that percentage dropping down to 35.7.

This was the fourth time this year Sun has come back to win a match after losing the opening set.

In the next round, Sun plays the winner of the match between Li Xiaowei from China and the Netherlands’ Arianne Hartono.
