Sun powers into Montreal 2nd round to set up clash with Anisimova

Lulu Sun has won her first round match in Montreal, Canada, defeating two-time grand slam quarterfinalist Sorana Cirstea 6-3 7-5.
It is Sun’s first win on the Tour since defeating the then world No 16 Daria Kasatkina in Eastbourne, just prior to Wimbledon.
Sun was able to break her Romanian opponent twice in the opening set, while saved all four of the break points she had against her.
The second set was tighter, but looked to be going Cirstea’s way when she got a break to go up 4-5.
However, rather than serving out the set, Sun got the break back and went on a run to also win the next two games for the straight-set victory.
Sun recently admitted she had mixed results during the grass court season and she chose not to play any tournaments during the first two weeks of the US swing, allowing herself to fully prepare for this WTA 1000 event.
That decision appeared to pay off with this impressive win, where her serve was a dominant factor, winning 69 per cent of the points on her second serve.
In the next round Sun will play Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova from the United States.
This will be Anisimova’s first match since she lost that final 6-0 6-0 to Iga Swiatek. It will be the first time Sun and Anisimiova have played a match against each other.
