Venus and Daniell continue their Olympic form on ATP Tour

It’s been a good day for Olympic Bronze medallists Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington DC. They have both won through to the quarter finals with their respective partners.

Second seeds Venus and Britain’s Neal Skupski have beaten Frenchman Fabrice Martin and Australian Max Purcell 7-5 6-3 in an hour and six minutes. Venus and Skupski will face ex Kiwi Cam Norrie who represents Britain and Australian Luke Saville for a place in the semis. Marcus Daniell playing with Brazilian Marcelo Melo for the North American hardcourt swing, have beaten Marcelo Arevalo and Matwe Middelkoop 7-6 (8) 6-2 in one hour and 15 minutes. Daniell and Melo will face the Australian pair of Alex Di Minaur and John Millman for a place in the semis.

Another New Zealand born player Ben McLachlan is in the quarters in Washington, playing with South African Raven Klaasen. McLachlan hails from Queenstown but represents Japan.

Meanwhile Erin Routliffe and her Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi have been beaten in the first round of the WTA 500 tournament in San Jose. They’ve lost a close match 6-4, 1-6 10-5 to American’s Coco Vandeweghe and Caty McNally. Routliffe will next play at the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal next week.
