There will be a New Zealander in the doubles final of the inaugural ATP 250 tournament in Sardinia this week. Michael Venus and his Australian partner John Peers will face Marcus Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald for a place in the final.

Third seeds Daniell and Oswald defeated Kiwi Artem Sitak and his Slovakian partner Igor Zelenay 6-3 7-6 (3) in 1 hour 21. There was just one break in the first set while Daniell and Oswald clinched a tight second set in a tie break. Both pairs won 59 points in the match and Daniell and Oswald managed to saved all five break points against their serve.

By contrast second seeds Michael Venus and John Peers were dominant in their quarter final against Britain’s Jonny O’Mara and El Salvador’s Marcelo Alvaro. They wrapped up a 6-1 6-2 victory in just 51 minutes.

Venus and Daniell will be on court tonight for their semi final with the match scheduled to start at 10-30pm.
