Venus and Peers storm into Hamburg semi finals

Thursday, 24 September 2020

Michael Venus and his Australian doubles partner John Peers have demolished 3rd seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo 6-1 6-2 in 58 minutes to reach the semi-finals at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, the European Open.

After reaching the semi-finals at last week’s Rome Masters, the Antipodean duo have continued their impressive run of form with arguably their best result of the season.

Although Peers dropped serve in the first set, Kubot and Melo couldn’t hold serve once and had no answers as Venus and Peers dominated, winning 55 of 91 points in the match.

Venus and Peers will play Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile Marcus Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald have lost their quarter final at the Forli Challenger tournament in Italy.

The top seeds have been beaten 7-6, 4-6 10-5 by Italians Lorenzo Musetti and Andrea Pellegrino. Daniell and Oswald now head to Paris with the French Open doubles draw to me made on Sunday.
