Venus and Puetz march into Hamburg semis

Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz have cruised into the semi-finals of their first tournament since Wimbledon.

Returning to clay at the European Open in Hamburg, Venus and Puetz are the third seeds and defending champions at the ATP 500 tournament.

Venus and Puetz have beaten the German wildcard pair of Jan-Lennard Struff and Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-3 in an hour and six minutes.

At 4-3 in the first set Venus and Puetz were able to break Altmaier’s serve to love leaving Puetz to serve for the set which he did with relative ease to win the opener in 30 minutes.

Altmaier was broken again in the third game of the second set and from there Venus and Puetz ran away with the match, breaking Struff in the 9th game to complete the win.

They will face the unseeded pair of Finland’s Harri Heliovaara and Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool for a place in the final.
