New Zealand’s top ranked doubles player Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz have won another tight match to reach the quarter finals at the Monte Carlo Masters, their first clay court tournament of the season.

Venus and Puetz have beaten the Kiwi’s former partner Aussie John Peers and his Russian doubles partner Aslan Karatsev 4-6,6-4,10-4 in one hour 22 minutes.  The fifth seeds will take on either top seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury or Uruguay’s Ariel Behar and Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar for a place in the semis.

That match will be late Friday night or early Saturday morning NZT.
