Venus and Routliffe reach Australian Open mixed doubles quarter finals

The New Zealand mixed doubles pair of Michael Venus and Erin Routliffe are through to the quarter finals at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

They’ve beaten Venus’s doubles partner Tim Puetz and a former partner of Routliffe’s Alexa Guarachi 6-3 7-5 in an hour and 15 minutes.

Tomorrow they will face the fifth seeds Kristina Mladenovic of France and Croatian Ivan Dodig for a place in the semis. That match will be the last of the day on the show court Kia Arena. From 5-30 NZT Venus and Puetz will play their men’s doubles quarter final against Australian wildcards Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
