Venus, Mektic reach semis in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Sun falls to Andreescu

Thursday, 12 June 2025

Michael Venus and Nikola Mektic are through to the semifinals at ’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, but Lulu Sun lost her second round match against Bianca Andreescu.

Venus and Mektic were given a walkover win over Zizou Bergs and Jesper de Jong, so the tournament’s top seeds advance straight to the semifinals where they’ll play the all-Australian duo of Matthew Ebden and Jordan Thompson.

It’s their first semifinal since Miami in March and is the third time they’ve got this far at a tournament in 2025.

In the women’s singles draw, Sun fell 6-0 6-4 to former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, but delivered a more competitive second set after a tough start.

The Kiwi had trouble with her serve in the opening set, only winning three points on it.

However, her serving improved in the second set, winning 14 of 15 points on her first serve.

But Andreescu managed to get the only break in the set, as she also saved two break points against her.

Sun is scheduled to play in Nottingham next week and is on the entry list for Eastbourne the following week.
