Venus reaches first US Open men’s doubles quarterfinal

Tuesday, 02 September 2025

Michael Venus is through to the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles at the US Open for the first time in his career.

On Court 11 on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ time), Venus and his Indian partner, Yuki Bhambri, defeated the German duo of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4 6-4, to secure a spot as one of the last eight teams in the draw.

Venus and Bhambri converted one from five break points in the opening set and two from four in the second set as they won four games straight to secure the victory.

Despite being broken once in the match, Venus and Bhambri won an impressive 83% of the points when they got their first serve in.

Venus had twice previously reached the third round in the men’s doubles at the US Open.

But this result makes it his best result so far in New York, although he has twice reached the final in the mixed doubles, something he wasn’t able to compete in this year, due to the change in entry rules.

In the quarterfinals, Venus and Bhambri will go up against the Kiwi’s partner at the start of the year, Nikola Mektic from Croatia and Rajeev Ram from the United States.

This will be the third match on court 17 on Wednesday (Thursday NZ time).

Meanwhile Erin Routliffe and Gaby Dabrowski’s semifinal against the No 2 seeds Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani will be the fourth match on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
