Court Supervisor | Assistant Referee
Overview
A Court Supervisor is an official who prepares and monitors a number of courts throughout the day.
They ensure the courts are fit for play and that players are abiding by of the Rules of Tennis and the Tennis NZ Code of Behaviour.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Court Supervisors must be on time for all assignments and report to the Tournament Director and Tournament Referee.
- Court Supervisors are required to be onsite for the entire day unless released by Tournament Director or Tournament Referee.
- Court Supervisors must check their courts, measuring net heights, putting singles sticks in/out, and ensuring that the court surface is safe and playable.
- They must ensure that players adhere to the Tennis NZ Code of Behaviour.
- Communicate with Tournament Director and Referee on any incidents, codes, and finished courts.
- Resolve any on-court disputes between players, as well as reporting any on-court or off-court incidents or disputes that involve players, parents, coaches, and spectators to the Tournament Director or Tournament Referee.
- Be ready to assist in solving any issues related to the organisation of the tournament, players, coaches, officials, media and spectators.
- Refer serious matters regarding the draw, seeding, scheduling and court allocations to the Tournament Director or
Tournament Referee.

Court Supervisor Pathways
Regional & Local Court Supervisor (Assistant Referee)
Regional and Local Court Supervisors are able to officiate at Tier 2 and 3 tournaments and any club based events. They can work at higher level tournaments provided they have had some experience or working alongside an experienced official.
Qualifications
- Online Rules of Tennis test
- Tennis NZ Court Supervisor Course
- A Court Supervisor must be a current Tennis New Zealand Official and have the appropriate accreditation for the event.
National Court Supervisor (Assistant Referee)
Officials are to have sufficient experience at regional and local tournaments before stepping up to work at events such as National and ITF Junior events.
