ATP season ends for Daniell and Sitak
The ATP season is over for Kiwi doubles players Marcus Daniell and Artem Sitak. They have both lost their respective quarter finals at the tournament in Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan.
Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald have lost 7-6 (4) 3-6 11-9 to Marcelo Arevalo and Tomislav Brkic.
Daniell and Oswald who had been in good form after winning the ATP tournament in Sardinia two weeks ago and making the semi finals in Cologne last week, only dropped serve once in the match with Daniell being broken in the first set. They broke serve three times from eight chances, but the match was settled in a tight match tie break.
At 9 all Arevalo and Brkic got a bit lucky with a return off the net cord that hit the line and then on their second match point Daniell mis-cued a smash following a shanked return of his serve.
Artem Sitak and his Dutch partner Sander Arends were beaten 6-3 7-6 (4) by Kiwi Ben McLachlan who represents Japan and his partner Franko Skugor.
Sitak and Arends made a bright start going up an early break in the first set but they couldn’t maintain their momentum. Both pairs traded breaks in the second set and the match was settled in a tie break.
