Daniell joins Venus in field for Paris Masters

Sunday, 01 November 2020

There’s some great news for New Zealand Davis Cup player Marcus Daniell. He has joined Michael Venus in the field for the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris this week.

Marcus Daniell has joined Michael Venus in the field following the withdrawal of one of the pairs.

The Kiwi and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald entered the tournament as alternates and they have travelled to Paris after making the semi-finals at last week’s tour event in Kazakhstan.

They face German’s Alexander Zverev and Kevin Krawietz in the first round on Tuesday morning (NZT) and Daniell is thrilled to get the chance to extend his season.

“We're pumped to get another chance to end the season on a high. Our last match in Kazakhstan ended with some terrible luck and left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth, so we'll be looking to redeem ourselves in Paris against a strong field. We've beaten a bunch of the top teams in the world in the last month so we know we have the level, now we just have to put our noses to the grindstone for one more week and take this opportunity.” Daniell said.

Venus meanwhile and his Australian partner John Peers are the 7th seeds and have a bye into the second round.

They probably need one win to confirm their place in the elite eight team field for the ATP Tour Finals in London later this month.

They will face either Aussies Max Purcell and Luke Saville or American Austin Krajicek and Croatian Franko Skugor in the second round.
